Travellers stranded as rain cuts off Kwale road

Commuters on the Mkongani-Tiribe road in Kwale county were stranded for five hours yesterday after a morning downpour.

The road, which connects Kwale and Mombasa towns, has potholes and vehicles get stuck when it rains.

Some travellers had to wait inside buses as others sought temporary shelter under trees.

Former councillor Hassan Chitembe told the Star they need immediate action from area leaders so roads can be repaired.

Chitembe said due to the problem, busfare has been increased from Sh200 to Sh600 from Mombasa to Mkongani.
